Police have arrested five more people involved in arson, vandalism, and looting of various structures in the district during the Genji protests.

The District Police Office has said that five people involved in vandalism, arson and looting of various government structures, police office buildings and properties in the district have been arrested.

The arrested are Ajay Tamang, 21, of Dhulikhel Municipality-3, Bishal Bholan, 21, of Khanikhola Rural Municipality-1, Rabindra Pariyar, 22, of Banepa Municipality-3, Abhi Sudhakar, 19, of Ward No. 8, and Bhim Tamang, 27, of Jiri Municipality-1, Dolakha, informed the office's information officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabin Bista.

According to him, among the arrested, a drug case was registered against Bholan at the Area Police Office, Banepa in 2081, while a vehicular homicide case was registered against Sudhakar in 2079. The police have extended the remand of the arrested and further investigation is underway.

Earlier, during the Genji movement, Kavrepalanchok police had arrested 12 more people involved in arson, vandalism and looting of various government and private buildings and properties in the district. The office has stated that the investigation into the incident is underway based on complaints filed with the office against those involved in arson and looting in various places in the district, and that those involved in criminal incidents during the protest are being searched. District Police Chief Superintendent of Police Komal Shah said that a special investigation has been launched after the office received a complaint about damage to six private structures.

The office has also arrested 11 people involved in the vandalism, arson and looting of the Area Police Office Banepa under its jurisdiction and is conducting further investigation including taking action. During the protest, 18 different government and private structures were severely damaged in Kavrepalanchok. Earlier, the police have arrested 53 more prisoners who escaped from various prisons during the Genji movement from Kavrepalanchok on different dates and the office has sent them to the concerned office via the District Jail Dhulikhel.
