Twenty-six people are still absconding from the regional prison in Bhimphedi rural municipality of Makawanpur. Of the 39 foreign prisoners who escaped by breaking the prison wall around 1 am on Bhadra 24, 13 have returned to the prison and 26 are still absconding, said prison chief Subash Poudel.
Similarly, out of the 440 prisoners, including foreigners, who escaped from Bhimphedi Prison, 286 have returned to the prison so far, while 154 are yet to return.
According to Prison Chief Poudel, 71 people who escaped from other prisons have also returned to Bhimphedi Prison. Chief Poudel said that out of the 71 prisoners from other prisons, 35 have been transferred, one has been released and 35 are still in prison.
Four hundred and forty prisoners, two 60 from Block (A) and one 80 from Block (A), had escaped by breaking three gates of the prison and demolishing the western wall. Chief Poudel informed that security personnel have taken control of the prisoners from various places and handed them over to the prison.
