Makwanpur's Hetauda sub-metropolitan municipality has banned the sale, distribution and production of plastic flowers. The Deputy Metropolitan Municipality has issued a notification to encourage local flower production and has banned the sale, distribution and use of plastic flowers within the city.
Urging the use of natural flower garlands, the sub-metropolitan municipality said that it will be brought under the scope of regulation if it is found to be selling and using plastic flower garlands contrary to the information.
Stating that it is the responsibility of everyone to produce and promote local products and natural indigenous flowers, Bharat Gautam, the chief administrative officer of the sub-metropolitan city, requested to use only indigenous flowers as the use of plastic flowers will cause damage to the environment and will not decompose in the soil.
