The Hayu family is looking for safe shelter after the landslide

What you should know

In Kamalamai Municipality-1 Shimle, the settlement is at risk due to landslides. Only the Hayu community lives here. On Friday, a team of the District Security Committee reached here to inspect, but there was no enthusiasm among the affected Hayu family.

The affected family requested assistance from the representatives of the government who came to the site for inspection. However, they could not be completely optimistic that something would happen immediately from the government.

was the reason for this, it is not the first time that the land has been flooded here, nor is it the first time that the government team has come. Last year also, government representatives came here to inspect, but the affected Hayu family complained that there was no enthusiasm because there was no initiative to reduce the problems of the affected settlements living in the risk area.

'The land has been torn apart. The land shifted and the settlement collapsed. It is not known at what time the soil will slide down and the landslide will fall. We are in trouble. When it starts raining, the heart starts shaking with fear', the affected Poornimaya Hayu said, 'The government comes to see our suffering, but so far nothing has been done to remove the suffering.'

Like Purnimaya, the Hayu family of 15 houses in Kamalamai Municipality-1 Shimle has the same complaint. Last year, after the continuous rains, the land here was flooded and the settlement was at risk. This sequence has not stopped. The risk has increased. 'Half of the house is bent. The ground is torn. The paddy fields and settlements are all shifting and falling down. where to go All the land that I have is right here,' said the local Phulkumari Hayu.

Naresh Gole, Chairman of Ward No. 1, said that the Hayu settlement of Simle has been in danger for a year and due to lack of safe shelter, they are still forced to live in the dangerous settlement. He said, 'This problem is not new.  More than 200 people have been affected since last year. After the incessant rain that fell from October 17 to October 21, the ground is becoming more flooded. As the structure of the settlement has become unstable, the local residents have started to panic.'

According to Ward Chairman Gole, a list of all houses at risk has been prepared and sent to the municipality and district administration office last year. He said that despite repeatedly drawing the attention of the relevant agencies, no further progress has been made except for on-site inspection. 'It is dangerous to stay in the risk area, so there is no option to relocate the settlement. Cooperation between the local, state and federal governments is essential for a long-term solution to the problem', Ward President Gole said.

Chief District Officer Dineshsagar Bhusal assured that by sending a report on the situation here to the relevant agencies, necessary coordination would be done to solve the problem. He said, 'The settlement is at risk. The Hayu family is in panic. We have reached the vulnerable settlements and met the affected people to make them feel that the government is with us.  Coordination is being done with the relevant agencies to solve the problem. Now we will immediately hold a meeting of the disaster management committee and make further decisions.'

Mayor Upendra Kumar Pokharel also said that the municipality is also taking necessary coordination and initiatives for a long-term solution to the problem.

The Hayu community, which worships nature, is currently in the grip of a disaster. The affected people are begging for help from the local, state and federal governments after being in danger for years. In order to save the existence of this endangered caste, which is backward in every way, the local people demand that the government should emphasize on the management of safe resettlement to solve the long-term problem as soon as possible.
