Vehicular movement has been banned on the BP highway from today at night. After the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority predicted the possibility of heavy rains and high risk of flooding, the movement of vehicles was banned.
Today's meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee Kavrepalanchok has banned the operation of non-essential vehicles until the night of October 21st in view of the risk on the highway. The committee has asked not to drive vehicles during the period from 5 pm to 5 am the next day.
It has been decided to stop the operation of vehicles on the road section from Kavrevanjyang in Dhulikhel to Bhakunde-Sindhulisi in Nepalthok, the coordinator and chief district officer of the committee Umesh Dhakal said.
Due to the risk of monsoon on the highway, vehicle operation was also suspended for 15 days from August 16. The
committee said that while the monsoon is currently active, there is a potential risk of flooding on the VP highway and there may be a disaster. As the operation has been stopped, it has also made a public appeal to exercise caution. According to the
committee, vehicles going from Kathmandu will be stopped at Kavrevanjyang in the district and vehicles coming towards Kathmandu will be stopped at Sindhuli border in Nepalthok.
In view of the risk of monsoon disaster, the inter-district coordination committee meeting of security committee officials of Kaverapalanchok, Sindhuli and Ramechhap districts had previously banned vehicle operation on the BP highway from 6:30 pm to 5 am from June 7th.
In October last year, the road was washed away in an eight-kilometer stretch from Chowkidanda in Kavrepalanchok to Barshekhola in Sindhuli. Somewhere on that highway, temporary roads have been put into operation for two-way traffic. Out of the total 160 km of the highway, the flood caused more damage to 34 km from Khurkot in Sindhuli to Nepalthok and 50 km from the fourth section from Nepalthok to Dhulikhel in Kavrepalanchok and 84 km of the road.
