Considered to be the first in South Asia, the number of visitors to the Churiamai Tunnel located in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-15 has been seen to be significant.

According to Hetauda sub-metropolitan city, more than three thousand people have observed the tunnel in eight months.

The long dilapidated tunnel has been opened for tourists after reconstruction. The Provincial Transport Infrastructure Directorate reconstructed the tunnel and handed it over to Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City for management at a total cost of 4.57 million rupees. The tunnel was inaugurated on January 8, 2081 and opened to the public.

Manoj Kumar Subedi, head of revenue branch of Hetauda sub-metropolitan city, said that revenue of Rs 1 lakh 17 thousand has been collected from tourists. Only in July of the current financial year, 455 tourists visited the tunnel and for that, 20 thousand 550 rupees revenue was collected.

For viewing the tunnel, it is fixed at 50 rupees per person for Nepalese, 100 rupees per person for foreigners, and 20 rupees per person for students.

The tunnel connecting Bara of Madhes Province and Makwanpur of Bagmati Province was built in 1974 during the time of the then Prime Minister Chandra Shamsher. Vehicles were operating through that tunnel until 2020. The renovation of the tunnel started on 19 May 2079.
