The District Administration Office Ramechhap has instructed all banks and branches in the district not to make national identity cards compulsory when opening bank accounts for disabled, helpless and senior citizens.

The administration gave this instruction after receiving a complaint that service recipients who came to open an account for the purpose of social security allowance were denied service because they did not have a national identity card. According to the revised instructions of Nepal Rastra Bank, disabled and helpless citizens who are unable to take care of themselves can open an account and do business by attaching other necessary documents even if they do not have a national identity card or identity card number.

Clarifying about this, District Administration Office has directed banks and financial institutions to fully comply with the provision, District Administration Office Administrative Officer Prakash Pradhan said. According to him, according to the revised instructions of Nepal Rastra Bank, it has been clarified that disabled and helpless citizens who are unable to take care of themselves can open bank accounts and conduct transactions by attaching necessary documents other than national identity card or national identity card number.

Keeping this in mind, banks and financial institutions should fully comply with the legal provisions and facilitate the service users, he said. The administration has also warned that if the instructions are not implemented, a report will be sent to the relevant agency. District Administration Office Ramechhap says that all the eight local levels in the district have been informed about this.
