The repair work of the belay bridge installed at Khurkot, which connects Ramechhap with the capital Kathmandu in the shortest distance, has been started. The Nepali Army started repairing the bridge after complaints that the bridge was showing flexibility, the nut bolts were loose and the deck was shaking.

In coordination with Khadgdal Gana Ramechhap, the engineering unit deployed from Bardibas-based Sri Kalisiddhi Gana has started the repair work from Thursday. According to Homendra Kumar Yadav, sub-engineer of road division office, Khurkot, the nut-bolts used in the slab of the belay bridge have become loose. He said, 'work is being done to tighten the loose nut-bolts and replace them if necessary. The work will be completed in a day or two.'

Chief District Officer of Ramechhap Shyamkrishna Thapa clarified that this is a regular maintenance work. He said, 'The bridge should be repaired regularly even if there is no accidental damage or accident. The repair work is being done by stopping the traffic for some time.'

Even though only 15 ton load vehicles can be operated in Belbridge, local people complain that heavier vehicles are allowed to pass through. But according to Prajia Thapa, it was not found to be as per the complaints of the locals during the regular monitoring.

51 meters of the 100 meters long bridge connecting Khurkot of Sindhuli's Golanjor Rural Municipality-7 and Ramechhap's Manthali Municipality-6 Vetini was swept away by the flood that occurred in Sunkoshi on October 12 last year. After that, from 6th of October, the Nepalese army installed the Belybridge and brought the bridge into operation.

The original bridge, built at a cost of around 18 million rupees, has reduced the distance between Manthali and Kathmandu by about 75 km. Necessary coordination is being done between Road Division Office Khurkot and Nepali Army during bridge repair.
