In the last financial year, 28 rhinos died in Chitwan Park and its intervening areas.
A male rhinoceros was found dead in a paddy field. Conservation officer Avinas Thapa Magar, who is the information officer of Chitwan Park, informed that a 20-year-old male rhinoceros was found dead due to electrocution in a paddy field in Madi Municipality-2 Bhairavpur in the southern region of Chitwan.
'Perhaps he must have died last night. We got the news this Wednesday morning. The rice field was electrocuted and died. Whose farm is it? We are investigating why they died like that,' said information officer Thapa Magar.
The hoof of rhinoceros is safe. Traffickers kill rhinoceroses for the horns on their noses. Thapa Magar said that an investigation is being conducted on whether the smugglers killed the rhinos to steal rice. Khag is not only about smuggling. Killing rhinos for any reason is prohibited by law.
In the last financial year, 28 rhinos died in Chitwan National Park and its intervening area. Zero rhinos were killed by poachers. Avinas Thapa Magar, information officer of the park informed that one rhinoceros died due to electric shock in the last financial year as well.
