The main road section connecting the headquarters Manthali with Khandadevi, Doramba Shailung and Sunapati Rural Municipality has been completely blocked for large vehicles since Saturday morning.

Due to the damage to the concrete bridge due to the flood in the local Bhatauli river, all the transport vehicles except small vehicles were stopped.

The bridge on the border of Manthali municipality-7 and Khandadevi rural municipality-4 has been washed away by the flood, cutting the back of the pillar on the Khandadevi side. According to local Kedar Kumar Sarki, the risk of the structure has increased after the flood has affected the pillars of the bridge.

"Last year in October, the river also hit this pillar, but this time the flood completely damaged it," he said. Locals complain that the current situation has come about because the relevant agencies did not pay attention to the initial damage in time.

In October last year, after the Khurkot bridge on the Manthali-Sindhuli road was swept away by the flood in the Sunkoshi river, a belay bridge was installed there as an alternative. But the operation of vehicles weighing more than 15 tons has been banned from the said bridge. After that, the Bhatauli bridge route through Sitkha was being used as the most reliable option.

According to Sindhuli driver Sirjan Tamang, about a dozen vehicles carrying materials from Birgunj for the Sunkoshi-Marine Diversion Project have stopped at Khandadevi Rural Municipality-4. Empty vehicles are allowed to pass through Khurkot, but loaded vehicles are not allowed to pass. When coming around, we had to stop because of the problem at the bridge here too," he said.

Janendra Prasad Pun, Head of Infrastructure Development Office Ramechhap informed that the bridge repair work is going on rapidly. There was some damage before, during the repair, there was a flood. Although there are difficulties due to the landslides coming from above, the work has been progressed by using five machines,' he said, 'The goal is to bring the bridge into operation within the next two days.' This bridge on the alternative road network is strategically important for Ramechhap.
