Demolition of the palace (Durgaratna) of Nuwakot, which was damaged by the devastating 'Gorkha earthquake', has started. The part of the damaged structure has been demolished after the technical work has been completed for the preparation before the reconstruction of the palace, which will be built with the help of the Chinese government.
According to Sunil Pandey, Head of Archeology Department, Monument Preservation and Palace Care Office, the removal of the roof (jingti) through scraf folding (scaffolding) installed in the palace has been completed and the removal of the upper floor has been started .
'As it is a structure of archaeological heritage, taking care of its sensitivity, the work of removing the structure of the palace is being carried out with caution in the presence of Nepali representatives', he said, 'During the demolition, arrangements have been made accordingly for the protection of materials such as jingti, windows, bastions, bardli and other materials used in the palace .

Mayor Shrestha informed that eight structures including Satatele Darbar, Tulja Bhawani temple of Nuwakot will be reconstructed through the Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage under Chinese assistance during the post-earthquake reconstruction. According to him, the temple of Tulja Bhawani (Taleju) of Lichchavi period, which was completely damaged by the earthquake, has been completely demolished.
Pandey, the head of the palace care office, informed that the matter related to the archaeological heritage found at that place is currently being studied. According to him, after the study, the new construction of Taleju Temple will be as it was before.
