Indra Bahadur Baniyan has been elected as the leader of Bagmati Province Congress Parliamentary Party. In the election held on Wednesday, he was elected as the leader of the Banian Dal after defeating Bahadur Singh Lama (Tamang), who is also the Chief Minister.

After Lama lost the position of party leader, elections were held on Wednesday to elect a new leader of the party.

Lama defeated Baniyan in the provincial parliamentary party leader election held on 13th December 2079. The vote difference at that time was 5. Both Chief Minister Lama and Baniyan are leaders close to Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
