An election committee has been formed to select the leader of the Congress parliamentary party in the Bagmati state assembly.
The Congress Bagmati Province Working Committee meeting held in Hetaunda on Tuesday decided to form the committee under the coordination of Provincial Joint Chief Minister Harisharan Shrestha. Joint Minister Rishiram Ghimire and Jeevan Dangol are members of the committee.
After Bahadur Singh Lama, who is also the Chief Minister, lost his position as the leader of the parliamentary party, elections are about to be held to elect a new leader. On Tuesday, there was a division of votes in the Provincial Congress Parliamentary Party on the motion of no confidence against leader Lama. Only 15 MPs have voted in favor of Chief Minister Lama. Similarly, the majority ie 22 MPs were seen in favor of Indra Bahadur Baniyan.
Congress has 37 provincial MPs in Bagmati. A motion of no confidence was registered under the leadership of Congress state president and state MP Indra Bahadur Baniyan. Both Chief Minister Lama and Baniyan are close leaders of Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
