In the last fiscal year 2081/082 in Chitwan National Park, 11 people lost their lives due to attacks by wild animals including elephants, rhinos, and tigers.
Information officer of the park, Avinash Thapamgar, informed that eight people have lost their lives due to rhinoceros attacks.
Similarly, he said that two people lost their lives in an attack by an elephant and one in a tiger attack. During the same period, 41 people were injured due to wild animal attacks. Among the injured, 32 are seriously injured and nine are lightly injured.
Most of the deaths from wild animals are people who went to cut grass and pick blackberries . According to the park, people have died due to the attacks of wild animals including tigers, rhinos, elephants, wild boars, crocodiles, and gourigas.
In the last five years of Chitwan National Park, 73 people have lost their lives due to wild animal attacks. During the same period, 169 people were injured in the attack of wild animals. According to him, during the last five years, the most 30 people died in the year 2078/2079. That year only 21 people died from tiger attacks.
Residents of the central region go to the parks and community forests for firewood with permission. Prakash Dhungana, Chairman of Chitwan National Park Central Community Forest User Committee, said that the habitat of wild animals should be managed to reduce the conflict between humans and wild animals. The park has said that it is working on mesh netting with public awareness programs.
It is mentioned in the statistics of the park that 179 domestic animals were lost during the period of one year due to the attack of wild animals. 140 animals have been damaged by leopard attacks. Information officer Ranamar informed that 37 animals were killed by the tiger attack and two animals were killed by the snake.
Elephants have damaged 23 houses around Chitwan National Park. According to the park, last year alone, elephants have damaged the grain storage of 13 houses.
