A man who went fishing in the river at night died due to a crocodile attack. The incident took place on Thursday night in Chitrasari Budhirapti river near Chitwan Sauraha. Chitwan District Police Office has informed that the deceased is 26/27-year-old Avishek Majhi of Ratnanagar Municipality-8.
Avishek and 40/45-year-old Rajkumar Majhi of the same place went to Budhirapti river for fishing around 9 pm on Thursday. Rajkumar informed the temporary police post Mainaha that Avishek was dragged into the river by a crocodile while he was fishing.
As soon as the news was received around 9:35 PM, teams from Mainaha and Ratnanagar area police offices were engaged in search and rescue operations, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ravindra Khanal, spokesperson of Chitwan District Police Office. He informed that Avishek's body was found around 1:20 PM.
DSP Khanal says that Majhi's body was found 200 meters north of the incident site. Although the Budhirapti river flows towards the south, a crocodile dragged Avishek to the opposite side of the river, police officials said.
There are two species of crocodiles in Chitwan Park and its surrounding streams and rivers, Ghadiyaal and Magar. Ghadials mostly eat only fish, are considered to be relatively calm and less lethal, while crocodiles are large, very aggressive and have a lethal nature.
