The Chiabari-Sindhuligarhi march is the responsibility of the army

A Chiabari-Sindhuligarhi walk was held on Saturday for the revival of history and fitness.

The march organized by Sri No. 9 Vahini of the army, 'Gouravko Gatha-Killako Yatra', was conducted from the tea garden of Kamalamai Municipality-2 to Sindhuligarhi. The 8 km from Chiabari to Sindhuligarhi of Kamalamai Municipality 3 was earlier named as Captain Kinlok Path by the army, but this year it was nowhere to be seen.

On October 15, 1824, 2,400 British company troops under the leadership of Captain Kinlock were defeated by the Gorkhali army, numbering around 1,200 including local people, with the help of home-made weapons, Patpatingar and insects in the battle at Sindhuligarhi. During the unification of Nepal, the British army that came to support the then king of Kathmandu, Jayaprakash Malla, was defeated and chased away from Sindhuligarhi by the Gorkhali army led by Vanshu Gurung. Due to the absence of construction of BP highway, people from Sindhuli's Mahabharat north and Ramechhap, Okhaldhunga, Dolakha and other districts used to travel through this route.

After reaching Chiabari from the headquarters Sindhulimadi, the old road that goes along the bank of Gwangkhola to the bank Fendi and from there goes up steeply through Hattidhunga, Sirwani, Dhungrevanjyang, Saunepani and enters the fort area from the entrance to the fort is designated as Padmarg Kshatra. In addition to the army, representatives of the police, administration, businessmen, and organizations marched on the road. It is said that the padayatra will widen the relationship between the army and the citizens and help in the revival of history. Although a footpath was built in memory of Captain Kinlok, who led the enemy to reach the place where the brave ancestors had won, it was removed after the voices of the locals protested. Sagar Kumar Dhakal, an explorer of the Sindhuligarhi area during the trek, claimed that if the stairs can be constructed and resting places can be made, its importance will increase and trekkers from abroad will flock to it. He pointed out the need to adopt the footpath from the citizen level.

He argued that this path was different from the others because the Nepalese forces fought against the British forces who came to assist the then king of Kathmandu to hinder Prithvi Narayan Shah's unification of Nepal. "It is found in history that the Gorkhali army not only attacked but also took help from Aringal's Gola, Allo, Sisnu, etc.," he said.

As the 5 km area is steep, hikers say that rest areas and stairs should be constructed. The hikers are of the opinion that the importance of this footpath should be exposed, which is a source of pride for every Nepali.
