The children of Chepang community have recently started achieving excellent results. Kandeshwari Basic School located in Rapti Municipality-13 of Chitwan, where only Chepang children are studying, has become the best school in the municipality in this year's class 8 examination.
In the first year of teaching in class 8, the school became excellent. After the establishment of a school with residential facilities here, the children of the Chepang community are becoming excellent in studies, said the principal of the school, Balkrishna Thapalia.
He said that the school has become excellent with the help of teachers, students, parents and various organizations. According to him, this year 13 students took the class 8 exam. One of them Plus, seven people got A and two got B Plus.
"We are very happy to get such excellent results in the first year", he said, "We have reached this point due to the tireless efforts of teachers and students."
The education of Chepang children has improved after Lakshmi Foundation opened a dormitory with residential facilities in this school. "Students are taught here from 4 am to 9 pm", he said, "The teachers are also living in residential form." Among them, three schools, including Kandeshwari Basic School, achieved 100 percent results in the class 8 examination, informed Lakshmi Lamichhane, technical assistant of the education branch of the municipality.
He said that the municipality also took this result positively. Lamichhane said that Kanda's school has become an example that schools in the market area can also compete with schools in distress.
Kanda is known as the most dangerous place in Chitwan. The local Sita Bahadur Chepang said that this place, which does not even have access to vehicles and electricity, is being transformed into an education sector. He said that in recent times, children's attachment to education has increased and every parent has developed the idea that they should send their children to school.
You still have to walk two/three hours to reach here. After passing class 8, the students here have to go to other places. Due to poverty, children here drop out of school. Principal Thapalia said that recently, the children who have passed class 8 are taken to the hostel operated by Lakshmi Pratishthan in Kavre to study up to class 12.
Before 2072, only class 3 was taught here. In the year 2067, after eight people from the same house died after eating poisonous mushrooms, the attention of various organizations and the state began to focus here. Lakshmi Pratishthan and Miteri Foundation started working for the upliftment of Chepang community and children's education after seeing the poverty and lack. In
school, Lakshmi Pratishthan has run a hostel and since the foundation has arranged for two teachers, education up to class 8 has become possible. Prior to that, most of the children here used to drop out in the middle of class 3, said the principal of the school, Thapalia. "Even now, the parents do not have the ability to teach, if various organizations do not help, the children here will be deprived of education", he said.
Thapalia said that despite teaching up to class 8 with the help of various donors, there was a problem in conducting classes due to shortage of staff. According to him, the posts of 10 teachers are needed in lower secondary schools. He said that there are currently seven teachers.
He said that there is a lack of toilets and libraries in the schools, and he said that the state should pay attention to the poor schools. There are not even fifty students in this school, now there are 150 students. He said that as the number of students increased, the need for resources also increased.
