In Makwanpur, which has a severe and high risk of lightning, the municipality has installed a siren with a sensor to warn of lightning. By Tuesday, sirens have been installed in schools and municipal buildings in Chainpur of Raksirang Rural Municipality-5.
In order to reduce the loss of people's property due to lightning disaster, a siren with a lightning warning device sensor has been installed in Raksirang Rural Municipality. During a special program, the material was installed after being handed over to the rural municipality on Tuesday.
Village chairman Rajkumar Malla said that sirens will be installed in other wards within 2 days. According to South Asian Lightning Network President and Researcher Mr. Ram Sharma, this device has been installed in Raksirang after successful testing for the first time in South Asia.
"This device can give a warning within a radius of 16 kilometers after sensing the electric charge in the sky," he said. Earlier a successful test was conducted in Nagarkot. Researcher Sharma says that this system will give a warning about 16 minutes before the lightning strike and send a message to the public to go to a safe place.
Rural Municipality Chairman Malla said that such technology is essential as Raksirang is a high disaster risk area. Chairman Malla said that it would be easier to warn against lightning and take safety measures once there is a system to get information in advance.
As this technology is established at the local level, there is a possibility that the community will be more aware of lightning and find a safe place in time Hoone Sharma said. The technical team said that they will install all the siren devices as soon as possible.
Siren system will be installed in Ward No.1 Ramche, Ward 2 and 3 Bhatti, Ward 4 Ward Office, Ward 5 Chainpur, Ward 5 Silinge School Building, Ward 7 Girling, Ward 8 Pangbung and Ward 9 Police Station Kandrang.
With financial support from People in Need and technical support from South Asian Lightning Network, one main sensor and eight siren systems have been distributed. In the event, there was a remarkable presence of village head Rajkumar Malla, chief administrative officer Padam Bahadur Basnet, ward presidents from wards number 1 to 9 and the technical group.
In 10 months of the current year, 4 people have been injured by lightning in Raksirang Rural Municipality. According to the statistics of the rural municipality, 2 people died and 8 people were injured in Raksirang Gapa due to lightning last year.
