Makwanpur District Court has sentenced three youths to 5 years imprisonment for opium trafficking. The court also ordered a fine of Rs 5,000.
District Judge Poornima Koirala's bench held on Tuesday held that 24-year-old Marcos Chepang of Kailash Rural Municipality-7 of Makwanpur, 23-year-old Shivlal Chepang of Raksirang Rural Municipality-7 and 25-year-old Netralal Chepang of Raksirang Rural Municipality-7 were found to be selling opium.
On August 27, 2081, police arrested three people along with one gram of opium from Hetaunda Bus Park. At that time, the police also seized 2 kg of 500 grams of flour from them. They made the flour black like opium and packed it in plastic.
When tested in the police laboratory, one gram of opium and 2 kg of 500 grams of flour were confirmed. He was waiting for customers to sell the flour as opium.

According to the narcotics law, there is a legal provision that deals in opium from 1 gram to 25 grams can be imprisoned for 5 years and fined up to 25,000 rupees. Similarly, there is a legal provision that the court can fine a person from 15 years to life imprisonment and a fine of 500,000 to 2500,000 rupees for those caught with 25 grams to 100 grams of opium.
