Poaching of the rare one-horned rhinoceros has been stopped for the past 516 days. Chitwan National Park and its surrounding areas have not been poached even though rhinos have died due to natural causes.

According to the information officer of the park, Avinas Thapamgar, on 30th November 2080, two rhinos were killed by smugglers in Chaparchuli area under the eastern sector of the park.

In nine days, nine accused were arrested by the park and made public. Since then, he said that the security strategy has been changed and the theft has not happened.

So far in the current financial year, 24 rhinos have been found dead. All these died of natural causes. According to information officer Thapamagar, the rhinoceros died after being attacked by tigers and crocodiles, getting tangled up with each other, falling ill, getting stuck in swamps, getting old, being crushed by a male rhinoceros. The people living around the park were alert and the poachers did not kill the rhinoceros.

21 rhinos died in the last financial year. He said that 18 of the dead rhinos were due to natural causes, while two were caused by poachers and the cause of one was unknown. According to Magar, 22 rhinos died in Chitwan National Park in the financial year 2079/80. Of which 20 were killed by time, one by electric current and one by poachers. In the past,

was celebrated as a celebration after 1,71 days of poaching became zero. In the following years, the policy of zero poaching but not celebrating it as a festival was followed.

According to the calculation of 2021, the number of rhinos in Nepal has reached 752. The number of one-horned rhinos is highest in Chitwan National Park with 694. There are 38 rhinos in Bardia, 18 in Shuklaphanta and three in Parsa. Although there was a program to count rhinos this year, it had to be postponed due to budget management problems at the last moment. Although it is not possible to calculate, the monitoring has been intensified.
