With the onset of the monsoon season, there has been an increase in the number of fires in different parts of Bagmati province. Despite various efforts to control the fire, the forest fire has not been stopped.

It seems that forest fires are increasing instead of decreasing every year in summer. Due to the fire in different districts of Bagmati Province, many properties including Chiran wood and water pipes have been damaged, wild animals have also died due to the fire. 

This year too, 2,630.95 percent hectares of forests in 4 districts of Bagmati province have been burnt. According to Sanjeev Subedi, information officer of the Ministry of Forests and Environment of Bagmati Province, there was a fire in Makwanpur, Nuwakot, Dolakha and Rasuwa forests of the province.

He said that there may have been a fire in the forests of other districts, but they have not received the details so far. According to Subedi, only in the month of Chait, 2536 hectares of Makwanpur district, 87.3 hectares of Nuwakot, 23.55 hectares of Dolakha and 84  of Rasuwa district. Decimal 1 percent hectare of forest has been burnt. 

Subedi said that even though all the 13 districts of the province have been requested to send the details of forest fires, only 4 districts have sent the details so far.

He said, 'We have asked all the 13 districts of the province to send reports on forest fires, but so far only 4 districts have sent them, so it is said that 2,630.95 percent of hectares of forest have been burnt. This number may increase. According to

Subedi, one person has died in Makwanpur district and 389 trees have been destroyed by fire. In Dolakha, 3 bangur were burnt and damaged. Only in Makwanpur district 4 thousand 350 poles, 40 thousand 258 lathras and 4 lakh 31 thousand 29 saplings have been destroyed. In Dolakha, 6 thousand 26 Lathra and 7 thousand 750 plants have been destroyed, while in Nuwakot district, 100 poles, 5 thousand 850 Lathra and 17 thousand 150 plants have been destroyed. 

59.27 percent of the total area of ​​Bagmati province i.e. 12 lakh 43 thousand 844 hectares of land is occupied by forest area. Endangered wild animals also live in these forests of Bagmati province, which is also a park.

So far, the ministry has distributed equipment including hand pumps to some districts of the province for fire control. He said that even if the arsonists were not arrested and prosecuted, it could not be controlled and prevented. There is a legal provision that arsonists can be fined 60,000, imprisoned for three years or both.
