During ten years, 127 people from Chepang community lost their lives due to wild animal attacks. According to the data of the National Human Rights Commission, since the financial year 2070/71, 127 people from the extremely marginalized Chepang community have lost their lives due to wild animal attacks in Nepal.

Commission data shows that 5 to 19 Chepang people die every year. Kiran Baram, human rights officer of the commission informed that 5 people lost their lives in 2072/73 and 2074/75, while 19 people died in Chepang due to wild animal attacks in 2078/79.

According to him, 9 people lost their lives in the financial year 2070/71, 8 people in 2071/72, 5 people in 2072/73 and 2074/75, and 13 people in 2073/74. In the financial year 2075/76, 9 people in 2076/77, 12 people in 2077/78, 19 people in Chepang community lost their lives due to animal attacks. Similarly, Baram informed that 15 people lost their lives in 2079/80, 11 people in 2080/81 and 9 people died so far in the current financial year. Among the 127 Chepang people who lost their lives, 36 were women and 91 were men. Among them, 40 people died from tiger attacks, 28 people died from elephant attacks and 52 people died from rhinoceros attacks, according to the data. 3/3 people lost their lives due to crocodile and wild boar attacks and one person lost their lives due to Gourigai attacks. Among the dead, only 29 people are from Madi area.

Human rights officer of the Commission, Baram informed that the number of people who lost their lives due to the attack of wild animals is increasing because Chepang community is living in the Ailani land near the forest. Those who are forced to live in bad conditions have to live on the edge of the forest. Some have migrated because of the mining industry, he said, "There is a compelling situation where they have to lose their lives due to unsafe living conditions." He said that the conflict between the national park and the Chepang community is also ongoing. According to the National Human Rights Commission, they are forced to live on Ilani land and are not even getting compensation for the human and material damage caused by animals. Chepang community is living in Makwanpur, Chitwan, Dhading and Gorkha districts in Nepal. In these districts too, it has been found that they live near rivers and forests.
