Bhotekoshi and Sunkoshi rivers flowing through places of religious importance have become polluted due to indiscriminate dumping of garbage. The pollution has increased due to the dumping of garbage collected from the main bazaar Khadichour of Balefi Rural Municipality into the river bed.

Khadichour Dolakha on the Araniko highway is also the main market before reaching the center of various local levels including Ramechhap.

There are also some old temples at Manerchyoten and Bagar. Harmful garbage like plastic, bottles, glass from the nearby market is piled up in this bog and the environment has become foul smelling. For a long time, Bahrbise municipality has been trying to keep the market clean by arranging tippers and collectors for garbage collection. However, the garbage collected in the city is thrown into the river from Mahabhir area.

In Balefi and Bahrbise, some people throw garbage and sewage directly into the Sunkoshi River. Locals say that they throw garbage on the river bank because the local government has not designated a place to dump it. The old settlement and market of Sunkoshi is haunted by the rotting garbage dumped in Mahabhir and the stench of burnt smoke.

In Sunkoshi, the Sunkoshi flows into the Bhotekoshi in a valley below the temple of Kafeshwar Mahadev, which is believed to be more than five hundred years old. The place, which also has a ghat, gets crowded on the day of Janaipurnima for bathing and worship at Triveni Dham. Pilgrims get fed up with the stench of garbage. Locals have been demanding that an alternative should be found in Jurepahiro instead of the river to dump garbage.

"Because there is a pile of garbage in front of my house, I have to hold my nose day and night, I have become sick many times because I can't stand the stench," said Sanu Shrestha of Khadichour. are . On the other hand, Chautara Sangachokgadhi Nagar has arranged waste vehicles and collectors for waste management. Even here, a 'dumping side' is designated in the middle of the forest far beyond Chautara Bazar and waste is collected and thrown there. Even in Melamchi city, the garbage problem is the same . Locals say that the city is becoming smelly due to the dumping of garbage in the Indravati river and drains.

Three cities and nine rural municipalities across the district have stated that they are studying the geography and environment and making an action plan for waste management. Even though the local level has included in the policies and programs that waste will be managed in an environmentally friendly manner, it does not seem to be implemented.
