Two arrested for stealing water meter

Two people have been arrested for stealing water meters. Both the arrested persons are minors.

 

Deputy Superintendent of Police and Spokesperson Shyamu Aryal informed that the police arrested one 15-year-old boy and another 16-year-old boy from Ward No. 10 on the charge of stealing a water meter from Dilip Rajthala's house at Buddhapath-4, Hetaunda Sub-Metropolitan City.

They were caught on CCTV camera stealing water meters from a house in Rajthala and they were arrested on that basis, he said. 

The police has taken 5 days more permission from the Makwanpur district court to further investigate the two arrested persons. The theft of water meters has increased in Hetaunda for the past two months. 

During this period, the meters of more than one hundred water customers of Hetaunda Water Management Board have been stolen . Thieves have opened the meter installed inside the compound of the house and taken it from the pipe. 

Bishnu Prasad Sapkota, Executive Director of Hetaunda Water Supply Management Board, said that water meters have been being stolen from houses in various wards for a few months. There is about half a kilo of brass in one meter. Sanjay Neupane, Information Officer of Hetaunda Water Supply Management Board, said that the meter may have been stolen to sell the copper.

Neupane said, "The meter has been stolen to remove the same copper and sell it".
