Chepang Museum construction in final stage

Raksirang Rural Municipality is constructing a museum building to keep items related to the identity and culture of the Chepang community for viewing in the museum.

Chepang community has been used by the Chepang community since ancient times, but  Chepang Museum has been built to keep endangered materials for viewing. 

Municipal Chairman Rajkumar Malla said that the municipality is building a museum with a huge investment for the purpose of preserving the materials that they used in the past but are now in a state of extinction.

"The construction work of museum building in Raksirang Rural Municipality-5 Chainpur at a cost of 3 crore 63 lakh rupees has reached its final stage," he said. On the lower floor of the three-story building, the Chepang community has been using materials that reflect their culture and identity. 

The municipality has informed that the construction work of the museum will be completed by the next March. In the past, Chepang Museum was operating in Chainpur, which is also the center of Raksirang Rural Municipality. Overview  And people used to come from different places to study. 

The earthquake in 2072 damaged the museum building. The repair and maintenance work of the said building was done by the Rotary Club of Makwanpur with the financial support of Dilip Vania of Hetaunda. Since the building is getting dilapidated, the construction work of the new building has started from July 2078. 

Chepang Museum was established at that place since 2067 with the help of the then District Development Committee. In the museum, materials related to their lifestyle and identity such as one-edged dhangro used by the Chepang community, thunse used for killing bats, slingshots for killing bats, kutokodalo used for digging khoria, plow, weapons used for hunting wild animals, and containers for keeping chiuri ghee were kept.

'After demolishing the old building of the museum and starting to build a new building  We have kept the materials in the museum safe,' said the chairman of the municipality, Malla. 

"Because it is connected with our existence and identity, we believe that the museum will be operational soon,"  President of Nepal Chepang Association Govindram Chepang said.
