The 'National Unity Art Workshop, 2082' has begun on Saturday in Kakani, Nuwakot, adjacent to Kathmandu, on the occasion of the 304th Earth Day and National Unity Day.
The two-day art workshop, which will run until Sunday, will feature the participation of 15 artists from various districts including the Kathmandu Valley, said Guthiyar Shashi Bikram Thapa, head of Kakani Pauwa Guthi. He said that the two-day art workshop was organized to promote and preserve the original art, culture, and history of Nepali society, unity in diversity.
Kakani Pauwa Guthi has a history of being established by Commander Kopil Ranbir Singh Thapa (Swami Abayananda), the younger brother of Nepal's first Prime Minister Bhimsen Thapa, in 1888 BS with the aim of providing water, bamboo, and expanding settlements for the Batuwa people. Guthiyar Thapa said that the workshop was also organized here to draw attention to its protection as the land that was managed in that Guthi was being encroached upon and shrinking due to various cover and decisions of the Council of Ministers.
In a statement issued by the Guthi today, it said, 'If the Guthi is destroyed, the culture is destroyed. If the culture is destroyed, the identity is destroyed. If identity is destroyed, existence ends. Recognizing this fact, with the reference to Prithvi Jayanti, the 'National Unity Art Workshop and Exhibition-2082' has been organized with the participation of artists in the field of fine arts in the context of culture, history, and heritage conservation.'
The statement mentioned that the fictional novel Basanti by writer Diamond Shamsher Rana was filmed in this Kakani Pauwa Guthi premises and later when the Guthi building was promoted as Basanti Durbar, its originality and history were lost. 'Evaluating the fact that a picture speaks a thousand words, the painting workshop has been organized with the sacred objective of expressing the struggle, history, culture, and the principles of the path of the earth through color and line and presenting it as a living exhibition in the Kakani Pauwa Guthi premises,' the statement said.
Artists Ramkrishna Thapa, Subash Acharya, Kedar Dahal, Divesh Pradhan, Mangal Prajapati, Hari Prajapati, Prabin Shrestha, Dipendraman Banepali, Mangal Prajapati, Gaurimaiya Konju, Rajendra Yakami, Laxmi Prasad Khoteja, Subhash Khadka, Radheshyam Karmacharya, and others are participating in the National Unity Art Workshop and Exhibition.
