The vice professors and staff have locked Madhesh Agricultural University because they have not received their salary for the last 6 months.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vahidhanath Mahato was locked in the administrative building of the university in Rajviraj on Thursday morning. The vice-chancellor, registrar, administration wing, mulgate of administrative building and academic building have been locked.
The deputy professors and employees working in the university have demanded compensation and other benefits according to the regulations.
They have complained that they have not received their salaries since August of the current financial year. Deputy Professor Avinash Kumar Yadav said that due to the extreme financial crisis, they had to go into lockdown as there was no response to the Vice-Chancellor of the University and Minister of Education and Culture of the State Rani Sharma Tiwari.
The university's financial transactions have been closed recently after the current government started investigating financial transactions from the registrar appointed by the Lalbabu Raut-led government.
Due to the conflict between the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal and the Janmat Party, the university has recently been in trouble. The state government had established Madhesh Agriculture University at Rajviraj in Saptari on 27th November 2078. Rajviraj municipality gave 26 bigha 8 katha land in Ward No. 12 for the construction of the university building which was established to study in four faculties namely agriculture, animal science, fish science and food technology science. Due to the non-payment of the contractor when the financial transactions were stopped, the builders have also stopped the construction of the building.
Janmat Party, which became dissatisfied after the university made Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal chairman Upendra Yadav the chief guest for the foundation laying ceremony on 8th January 2080, locked the office of the university located at Rajviraj 3 on 7th January itself. On the day of the foundation stone ceremony, there was also a clash between the police and Janmat Party workers.
In the same case, the Janmaat Party called back its ministers in the Madhesh state government and also withdrew its support to the then state government led by Saroj Kumar Yadav.
After that, the problem of the university has not been resolved even though there have been investigations, parliamentary committee formation etc. There are currently 100 students studying in the four-year Bachelor of Agriculture program at the university. In the academic session 081/82, 50 students were called for admission and 110 applied. But due to lack of funds, the admission process has been stopped.
