The police have arrested one person on the charge of murder. Police arrested 36-year-old Gopi alias Kanohe Tharu of Madhuvan Municipality-2 Gangapatuwa from Gulria Municipality-3 Pragati Tol on Thursday.
Sushmita Tharu of Thakurbaba Municipality-1 Bhurigaon had left home saying she was going to Thakurbaba on 18th January 2081. After Tharu's disappearance, the relatives filed a search request at Bagnaha area police office on January 21. During the search, the police found the body of Tharu in a skeletal condition in a bush along the Babai River, east of Thakurbaba-4 Khailar village on January 15th. Based on the clothes of the dead body, Tharu's father-in-law Santaram Tharu identified it and filed a complaint with the police regarding the death.
Kanohe Tharu approached the woman over the phone and had physical relations with her at various places and after Sushmita repeatedly demanded money from the defendant Kanohe and said that if she did not give the money, she would be involved in a case of extortion, Kanohe hatched a plan to kill her . The police said that Kanohe has confessed that he killed the woman after forcing her to press the Bolai Ghati in Babai river on the 18th of January 2018 for fear of being caught in a case of coercion. DSP Chakra Bahadur Damarpal of the District Police Office informed on Wednesday that after taking control of Kanohe, the murder case was converted into a duty murder case and further investigation is being conducted by the court for 5 days. According to him, the arrested Tharu will be punished according to paragraph 12 of the Criminal Code 2074 for crimes related to life. According to the police, Tharu, who was arrested, has previously been sentenced for multiple theft and extortion cases.
