A girl has died due to a leopard attack. 5-year-old Saira Tharu of Gularia Municipality-5 Balapur died after being attacked by a leopard at 9:30 on Wednesday morning.
DSP Chakra Bahadur Damalpal of District Police Office Gularia said that the girl died when a leopard attacked her when she was returning from the toilet near her house. The body of the dead girl has been kept at Bardia Hospital.
On May 15, 9-year-old Melina Khadka was killed by a leopard attack in Dampongi side Sarju community forest of Gulria Municipality-8, and last March, 65-year-old Bikkulal Tharu of Gulria Municipality-4 and 7-year-old Sirjan Tharu of Balapur, Gulria Municipality-5 were attacked and injured by a leopard.
Even though the leopard has been terrorizing the place for a long time, the relevant authorities have not been able to control it. Locals have become alarmed because the leopard has not been brought under control for a long time.
Information Officer of the Division Forest Office Ramkumar Chaudhary said that the girl was attacked by a leopard that came from the Balapur Community Forest near the house. Chowdhury said that despite keeping a cage in that location for a long time, the leopard did not fall into the cage.
