To purify the drinking water distributed in Dhankuta Bazaar, a new sedimentation (for settling turbid water) and roughing filter tank have been constructed at Laharebar.
Two structures with the capacity to purify 10 liters of water per second have been built through cost-sharing between the Federal Water Supply and Sewerage Management Office and the Dhankuta Municipal Water Supply and Sanitation Consumer Committee.
For the project, the Federal Water Supply and Sewerage Management Office invested 6,428,000 rupees, and the Consumer Committee invested 1,607,000 rupees. In addition, the office has provided the committee with two water pumps with a capacity of 60 horsepower, gate valves, and flange sets worth 1,150,000 rupees.
According to Arjun Chhara, Secretary of the Dhankuta Municipal Water Supply and Sanitation Consumer Committee, the new purification system was installed after the old filter system was damaged by the 2015 earthquake and subsequent natural disasters.
He stated that the new system was constructed to address complaints from consumers who, despite paying high fees, were not receiving sufficient and clean drinking water.
According to the Consumer Committee, about 2,500 consumers in wards 5, 6, and 7 of Dhankuta Municipality will receive clean drinking water from this purification infrastructure built under the Salleri system.
