Pickup accident in Dhankuta: 4 injured, two in critical condition

Four people were injured in a pickup accident on the inner road section of Dhode, Sahidbhumi Rural Municipality-3, Dhankuta on Saturday afternoon.

The pickup (Ko 1 Ja 2295) heading from Gurdhum to Panchakanya lost control at around 2 pm and fell about 200 meters, according to the District Police Office, Dhankuta. After the accident, a team led by Police Inspector Bikash Rai from the Area Police Office, Chhintang, rescued all four injured people including the driver and sent them to the District Hospital, Dhankuta.

Among the injured, the driver, 21-year-old Purna Rai, a resident of Sahidbhumi-1, has suffered a serious head injury. Police have said that his condition is critical. He has been referred to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (Ghopa) in Dharan for further treatment.

Similarly, 35-year-old Meena Tamang has suffered a head injury. She has also been referred to Ghopa for further treatment.

16-year-old Amit Rai has sustained an injury to his left hand. He is undergoing treatment at a private medical facility in Hile, Dhankuta Municipality-1.

Similarly, 16-year-old Abin Rai is undergoing treatment at Ghopa in Dharan, police said. Police said further investigation is underway into the cause of the accident.
