Dhankuta police have seized more than 15 vehicles, both small and large, used in the transportation and sale of drugs.
It has been found that cars with Indian number plates and even emergency ambulances have been used in drug trafficking.
Dhankuta police have seized the vehicles used by the dealers involved in the trafficking of brown sugar and marijuana.
The seized vehicles include 4 cars, 4 pickups, 2 jeeps, 2 emergency ambulances brought in on customs duty, and 2 trucks and a mini truck. These vehicles were seized along with the dealers arrested at various times in the past four fiscal years, informed Dhankuta SP Sharat Kumar Thapa Chhetri.
The dealers have been using cars with Indian number plates and even emergency ambulances to transport marijuana, according to SP Thapa Chhetri. The seized vehicles have been parked on the land north of Gokundeshwor Secondary School, the old office used by the police in Dhankuta district headquarters. Some vehicles have been kept in the Mulghat outpost premises.
The vehicles under control have been kept under police custody pending the court's decision based on the nature, extent, involvement and evidence of the crime. He said that the details of the vehicles under control will be clear only after the court's final verdict.
Drug abuse cases have also been increasing in Dhankuta in recent fiscal years. The number of drug-related cases has been increasing since the fiscal year 2077/087. Police have stated that 4 cases have been registered in the fiscal year 2077/078, 10 in 078/079, 21 in 079/080, 20 in 080/081, 57 in 081/082 and 15 drug-related cases have been registered till the end of the current fiscal year.
