Election security 'threat' increased in Koshi: Minister of Internal Affairs Parajuli

What you should know

Koshi Province's Minister for Internal Affairs and Law, Indramani Parajuli, has said that the election security threat in Koshi Province has increased.

Minister Parajuli, who is also the spokesperson for the Koshi Province government, said that the politics of non-election and the prohibition in the name of the new and old have increased the security threat.

Speaking after a program organized at the Gokundeshwor Campus in the Balmandir of the Dhankuta district headquarters on Sunday morning, Minister Parajuli said that special election-focused security strategies are being carefully implemented in Koshi.

Although he said that there is an election security risk from two sides in Koshi Province, he did not specify which side. ‘That is on the notice of the provincial government, we are preparing a management plan accordingly and implementing it,’ Minister Parajuli said, ‘The forces boycotting the election, the forces that do not want the election play a greater role in such works, you and everyone else know that, so there is a security threat in Koshi from those who do not want the election.’

Minister Parajuli said that the politics of prohibition in the name of the new and old can also pose a serious security challenge.

Minister Parajuli says that non-political and prohibited activities are being carried out in the name of the new and old in election-targeted meetings, meetings, door-to-door and even on social media, which can pose a threat. 'The developments after Bhadra 23 and 24 have also made the situation not easy,' he said, 'The politics of prohibition that is being carried out in the name of the new and old has added challenges to internal security.'

He said that the provincial government is analyzing the security risks in Koshi Province, especially in Jhapa constituencies 2 and 5, and is making security management and preparations accordingly. He said, 'Look at Jhapa 5, there is competition from heavyweights there, UML President KP Sharma Oli and Balendra Shah are there, and there are also former Speakers in constituency 2, so the Koshi Provincial Government is sensitive to the security there.'

He also said that he took the issue of election security in Koshi Province seriously in the Koshi Province Security Coordination Meeting held on Magh 9 and in the interaction with the National Security Council on the 14th. He said, "I have also taken the issue of election security in Koshi Province seriously in the National Security Council. Coordination is also being done with the Home Ministry for security support from the center."

Minister Parajuli said that only the election will provide an official solution to the current confusion and that the provincial government is committed to creating a security environment for the election.
