Shrestha, who graduated in tourism, set foot on the peak of Mount Everest at 1 pm on Jestha 7, 2083. He set out on an expedition with a British climbing team on Chaitra 6 and succeeded in climbing Mount Everest on his second attempt.
Last year, although he set out with the goal of climbing Mount Everest, he was forced to return from Camp 3 due to adverse weather and challenging conditions. But Shrestha, who did not consider failure as a final conclusion, completed his goal this year.
Shrestha, who has been attracted to mountains and tourism since childhood, did not start his journey from Everest. He has successfully climbed Mount Lubuche three times. He has been climbing Lubuche every year since 2024 and last year he also climbed Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe.
His father Tanka Kumar Shrestha looked emotional at the award ceremony. 'My wish was to make my son an engineer,' he said, 'but today he has done a greater job than that. He has now become not only my son, but everyone's son.' Adding a story from his life, he added, 'I got married at the age of 26. Today, when my son climbed the highest peak of the world at the age of 25, there was no limit to his pride and happiness.'
Speaking at the ceremony, Dhanukumar expressed his gratitude to everyone who wished him well and honored him. According to him, climbing Mount Everest is not only a challenge, but also providing the necessary environment, resources and opportunities for that expedition is an even more difficult task. 'Many people dream of reaching the summit, but it takes a lot of struggle to turn that dream into a journey,' he said. 'I overcame many challenges and finally succeeded in achieving my goal.'
He recalled that his tourism journey began in 2074 BS. At that time, he said that he never imagined that he would one day climb Mount Everest. He said that the journey that began as a trekking guide gradually drew him into the world of the mountains. 'Initially, my job was to facilitate foreign tourists on the trekking route,' he said. 'Later, I became active in taking photos and videos in the mountains, making documentaries and films. In the process, my relationship with the mountains deepened.'
