As the election on Falgun 21 approaches, candidates are focused on direct communication with voters.
This time, the election campaign style is different from previous elections. Candidates are active in small meetings, door-to-door and in the fields to seek votes. Candidates are reaching voters' homes with a small number of leaders and activists, and the trend of reaching the fields to meet voters busy with farming has also increased.
According to the District Election Office, Ramechhap, there are 187,952 voters in this election in the district. According to Election Officer Narayan Lamichhane, 96 polling stations and 228 polling stations have been determined in the district.
In Ramechhap, which has only one House of Representatives constituency, 17 candidates, including 3 independents, are in the fray.
According to the Office of the Chief Election Officer, the independent candidates include Arun Karki, Babukaji Khadka and Santosh Ghimire. On the political front, Ramchandra Khadka from the Congress, Madhav Prasad Dhungel from the UML, Shyam Kumar Shrestha from the Nepali Communist Party and Dr. Krishnahari Budhathoki from the National Independent Party (RSWP) are the candidates.
Similarly, Gore Tamang from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Arjun Bahadur Thapa Magar from the Rastriya Janamorcha, Dhal Bahadur Khapangi Magar from the Shram Sanskriti Party, Yama Bahadur Moktan from the National Republic Party, Deep Bahadur Yonjan from the Ujjaya Nepal Party, Birendra Shrestha from the Progressive Democratic Party, Padam Bahadur Tamang from the Aam Janata Party, Binod Ghising from the Mongol National Organization and Yamun Bahadur Basnet from the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) have registered their candidacies.
In Ramechhap, Congress candidate for the House of Representatives Ramchandra Khadka expressed confidence that he would win the election by winning the hearts of voters through small meetings and door-to-door campaigns. He said, 'In the name of elections, the Congress does not carry out programs such as carrying people in vehicles, slaughtering cattle, buffaloes and goats, and gathering people to deliver speeches. We believe that we will win the elections by winning the hearts of voters through small meetings and door-to-door campaigns.'
On the other hand, the UML has also stated that it has given priority to direct meetings with voters. UML Ramechhap President Purushottam Kadariya said, 'We are conducting the program by fully complying with the Election Commission's code of conduct. Currently, our candidate Madhav Prasad Dhungel is busy meeting voters directly, listening to their complaints, taking suggestions and conveying his agenda.'
Other candidates, including Shyam Kumar Shrestha of the Nepali Communist Party and Dr. Krishnahari Budhathoki of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, are also active in door-to-door campaigns in villages. They have met with Ramechhap voters in Kathmandu and expressed their views, and have continued the door-to-door campaign throughout the district.
In the 2079 House of Representatives elections, the Congress and the then CPN (Maoist Center) alliance jointly contested from Ramechhap. In that election, the Congress-Maoist alliance candidate Purna Bahadur Tamang (Kancharam) was elected, defeating UML candidate Kailash Prasad Dhungel. Tamang won by securing 47,099 votes, while his nearest competitor UML candidate Dhungel secured 30,730 votes.
Among other candidates in that election, La Bahadur Ghising of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) received 1,484 votes, Samiksha Shrestha of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) received 1,459 votes, and CPN (ML) candidate Mohan Karki received 858 votes. There were a total of 180,106 voters in this constituency.
According to the results of the proportional representation, the CPN (UML) secured the first place by securing 28,150 votes. After that, the Congress got 24,101 votes, the then CPN-Maoist Center got 21,054 votes, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) got 4,626 votes, the RPP got 2,701 votes, the Unified Socialist Party got 1,348 votes, and the CPN-ML got 428 votes.
The 2079 election results clearly showed the political equation of Ramechhap and the inclination of the voters.
