Manthali Municipality-4 Salu and ward no. 5 Locals of Sunarpani have been having problems with drinking water for a long time. The Ramechhap Large Pumping Water Project, which was started with the aim of delivering water from the Tamakoshi River through a lift, was expected to improve the daily life of the local people.
However, the project has not yet been completed due to the contractor's negligence, delay and non-standard work.
In the lower parts of these two wards, the local springs have given some relief this year, while the upper parts of the villages are still facing drinking water problems. From June 2078 Ramechhap large pumping water project Although it has been started, the construction has not yet been completed. Because of this, the problem of drinking water is becoming more and more complicated.
The project was set to be completed by June 2081. The plan was to supply water to 2,400 households in two wards by drawing water from the Tamakoshi River through a lift. But the local residents are disappointed after the project has not been completed yet. Sharma-Sagun JV, which was entrusted with the construction of
, could not complete the project on time due to serious negligence. Januka Karki of Manthali Municipality-5 Sunarpani says, "We have been facing the problem of water supply for years. We were happy when the project started, but now the situation has turned into a mess. The pipe is stuck in the river and there is no decision as to when it will be completed."
Locals who were excited when the project started in the financial year 2078/79 are now disappointed. Sumant Karki of Sunarpani says, "The project was started for a long-term solution to the water supply. We raised more than 70 lakh rupees from the local people. But the project has stalled because the construction company and the contracting office have become irresponsible."
The massive pumping water supply project launched through the Climate Adaptation Project of the Federal Water Supply Ministry is still stalled due to delays. The pipes placed in the dry river contrary to the standards are rusting and becoming useless. Ward No. 5 Sunarpani chairman Ravin Karki (Naveen) says, "Looking at the condition of the project, it is a shambles. Even after crores of rupees have been spent, it is incomplete. There is no way when the thirst of the citizens of Salu and Sunarpani will be quenched."
According to Rajendra Prasad Shrestha, head of the Federal Water Supply and Sewerage Management Office, Ramechhap, a budget of Rs 61.49 million has been allocated for the Salu-Sunarpani water supply project. However, through the office, Sharma-Sagun JV got the contract to complete the work for 31 crore 61 lakh. The second extension expires this October.
Chief Shrestha says the main reason for the delay is the land dispute. According to him, so far the physical progress of the project has been 55 percent and the financial progress has been only 50 percent. "The work of electrification is going on. The construction company is working with the aim of partially supplying water within Kartik and completing the project by March," he said.
