30-year-old Surya Bahadur Adhikari of Hima Rural Municipality-6 Patarkhola has not been able to move his two legs since birth. He does most of the work sitting in a wheelchair with the help of his knees and hands. Classmates and service users are surprised to see the activity and dedication of the officer who is the head of the social security branch of the rural municipality.

He completed his secondary education from Bhanu Mavi Patarkhola near the village. But never got to see the face of the school . Due to the difficult geography, it was very risky to go to school. 'I didn't see school . Neither the teachers,'' he said, 'read the book bought by the parents at home . After hearing from his friends, he joined the exam. He can move around only by holding his hands and feet. He said that when he was little, he was sad when he couldn't walk. All my friends used to be in pain when they went to school. When the festival came, everyone would go but I spent the day at home,' he said.
Living in a remote village, neither those working in the field of disability looked at it, nor did the concerned bodies close to home . Everyone was laughing. He used to hate it, but now he says that every hardship he got at that time is turning into energy. After completing his secondary education, he moved to the headquarters of Khalanga. There was no disabled-friendly structure or wheelchair in the city. Everyone watched as he walked on his knees and hands on the street.
He was admitted to the Faculty of Education in Chandannath Mavi. The school was not handicap friendly nor was the school gate easy. He regrets returning to his room without studying for weeks. Became CBM project coordinator of INF from 2075 to 2076. Which made it easy to pay tuition and room rent . Since 2076, he has been working in the Social Security Branch of Hima Rural Municipality under contract. His family lives in Khalanga with his wife, two children and father. do .
'When I was in the village, I didn't expect to survive and reach here . He hated himself. There was no encouragement at all. He used to feel pain when he was always listening to things being cut off,' he said, 'Now I am happy to be serving people.'
It is uncomfortable for him to work because the municipal building is not handicap-friendly. After evaluating his work, he has been receiving awards from the municipality for two years. After completing his work, he is also helping in other fields.
"We are ready to work many times if we get the opportunity," he said, "Life is a mix of happiness and sadness." If you survive, you will be happy. There are 2,500 beneficiaries of his branch. No one has complained about the work. I am satisfied with this," he said. There are nearly 80 contract employees in Hima Rural Municipality.
