Amik Sherchan, chief of Lumbini province, has called for the appointment of a new chief minister. After Chief Minister Jaekh Bahadur Mahara resigned on Sunday, Provincial Chief Sherchan has started the process of appointing a new Chief Minister.

Provincial Chief Sherchan has called for government formation by 6:30 pm on Tuesday, July 7. After the Congress-UML power alliance in Lumbini, the government led by Maoist leader Jaekh Bahadur Mahara collapsed. Mahara resigned while addressing the Lumbini State Assembly on Sunday.

In Lumbini, the Maoists who have been in the government since its inception will be in the opposition for the first time. Now in Lumbini, UML parliamentary party leader Leela Giri is preparing to claim the new chief ministership.

UML party chief whip Tulsi Chaudhari said that the claim will be submitted to the Chief Minister after submitting the signatures of the MPs including 27 of the Congress and 29 of the UML at 1 pm on Tuesday.

44 MPs are enough for the majority in the 87-member Lumbini Provincial Assembly. He said that discussions are being held with other small parties as well.
