Everest Marathon title to Kulung and Sherpa

Arjun Kulung and Lhakpa Ngima Sherpa won the title of Tenzing-Hilary Everest Marathon held on the occasion of Everest Day for men and Lhakpa Ngima Sherpa for women. Kulung of Solukhumbu Mahakulung on the men's side and Sherpa of the Nepal Police on the women's side won the title by running at the highest place in the world.

Kulung was the first to cover the distance of 42.19 km from Everest base camp to Everest National Park office Namche in 3 hours 52 minutes 2 seconds. Police constable Sherpa covered the same distance towards women in four hours and 42 minutes. On the men's side, Suman Kulung completed the distance in three hours and 53 minutes and 27 seconds, second and Ramkumar Rajbhandari finished third in four hours and seven minutes and 40 seconds. On the women's side, Priya Rai finished second in five hours, one minute, and 22 seconds. According to the organizers, 210 runners are participating in the competition.

The Himalayan Expedition Company Limited has been organizing a marathon to commemorate the day when Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norge Sherpa first set foot on Everest 71 years ago on May 29, 1953.
